Why on earth won't my pores tighten?

The game changer for pores and acne scars, Cure Jet.

pore/cure jet/scar/acne scar

Hello I am Director Kim Ga-eul.

One of the questions I often hear during consultations these days is about 'pores'.

So today, I would like to focus a little more on this topic of pores.

Many people say, "I want to reduce my pores", but

before discussing the treatments, it is necessary to first clarify exactly what the pores we are looking at are,

and to understand their nature step by step. First, let's visually check what pores actually look like. I'll explain in more detail later, but

when people say 'I have many pores', it's often not just about the number of pores,

but rather, it is highly likely that scarring around the pores is the issue.

My skin looked exactly like that.

When I was young, I had severe acne and was even nicknamed 'Acne Doctor'.

Especially during puberty, increased oil production easily leads to acne.

Sebum is secreted through the pores,

and if inflammation or infection occurs during this process, it can lead to folliculitis or acne.

And as this process repeats, large inflammatory acne leaves scars around the pores,

which results in the pores appearing wider than they actually are.

The photo below shows a schematic and tissue images of pores, so please take a close look 😊

Around the pores, there are largely two key structures. ✴️Hair: Pores are the pathways through which hair grows.

✴️Sebaceous Gland: This is the oil factory located next to the hair.

Thus, we can define pores as openings for hair to grow and pipes for sebum to be discharged.

👉In the summer, when sebum production is high, pores naturally open up 👉In the winter, when sebum production is low, pores tend to appear smaller through contraction.

Ultimately, whether it's due to high sebum production or thick hair,

both can be the causes that make pores appear wider.

Especially if there are thick and dark hairs inside the pores,

just combining hair removal can make the pores appear much more refined.

The key is to accurately identify the causes. Determining whether it looks wide due to scarring,

or if it is purely 'pore dilation' will change the approach we take.

The main causes of pure pore dilation can be divided into two categories.

💠Sebum secretion

In summer, increased sebum secretion naturally causes the pores, which serve as outlets, to widen,

while during periods when sebum secretion decreases, such as in winter, the pores tend to appear smaller again.

💠Thickness of Hair

The thicker the hair, the larger the pathway from which it emerges, which is the pore.

Thus, the thickness of the follicle itself can influence the size of the pore.

Summary in three lines! ✔️First, determine whether what is visible is 'pure pore dilation' or scarring. ✔️Check if there are thick and dark hairs inside the pores (they can improve with hair removal alone). ✔️If neither applies, proceed with treatment according to the skin condition (e.g., curejet, rosacea treatment, etc.).

Thank you for reading this lengthy article today. Best regards, Kim Ga-eul. Recommended Beauty Column Outline & Volume

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. Why won't my pores tighten no matter what I try?

Large-looking pores are often not just about the number of pores but about scarring around them from past inflammation or acne. Identifying whether it's scarring or true pore dilation changes which approach will actually help.

Q2. What actually causes pores to look larger?

High sebum production, thick hair inside the pores, and scarring from repeated inflammatory acne are the main contributors. Sebum production also naturally increases in summer and decreases in winter, which is why pores can look different by season.

Q3. Is it my pore size or scarring that needs treatment?

That distinction matters — pure pore dilation and post-acne scarring respond to different approaches, so identifying the actual cause first is the key step before choosing a treatment.

Q4. Can treatments like Cure Jet actually make pores smaller?

Cure Jet is discussed as an approach for both pores and acne scars, but the right plan depends on your specific cause and skin condition, which is best assessed during a consultation rather than assumed from appearance alone.
