Why Shurink Results for Double Chin Come Down to Depth — Not Shot Count
More shots won't melt your double chin. Dr. Wi Young-jin breaks down how the 4.5mm SMAS Layer tightening principle works — and why the right order of procedures depends on how much fat you actually have.

Why Shurink Results for Double Chin Come Down to Depth — Not Shot Count
Check This First Before You Read On
Q. Does Shurink melt the fat under my chin
to get rid of the Double Chin?
A. Not exactly.
Shurink doesn't directly dissolve fat.
Instead, it tightens the SMAS Layer at a depth of 4.5mm,
physically lifting the fat upward.
Q. Will I get better results
if I just get more shots?
A. What matters more than shot count is which cartridge depth was used
and where exactly it was delivered.
If you have a significant amount of submental fat, Shurink alone
has real limitations.
Double Chin Shurink:
Most People Assume It's All the Same — Here's the Reality
Shurink is a High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) procedure that
delivers concentrated heat energy to the deeper layers of the skin,
stimulating Collagen contraction and promoting Lifting.
Unlike InMode or injectable fat-reduction procedures that are often compared to it,
Shurink doesn't "reduce the fat itself" —
it works by tightening the fascial layer to lift what has sagged.
Because the mechanism is fundamentally different,
who this procedure is right for becomes very clear once you understand it.
Same Shurink Procedure —
Why Do Some Patients See Results While Others Don't?
"Shurink does not directly dissolve submental fat.
It tightens the SMAS Layer at 4.5mm depth,
lifting the fat upward.
That's why for patients with a larger volume of fat,
the right approach is to reduce the volume first,
then use Shurink to refine and define the jawline."
— Dr. Wi Young-jin (Seoul Beautystone Clinic)
In consultations for Double Chin at my clinic,
about seven out of ten patients ask, "It dissolves the fat, right?"
But the core mechanism of Shurink is delivering heat energy to the fascial layer at 4.5mm depth
and contracting that layer.
As a result, the fat that had been sagging
gets pulled upward, bringing the jawline back into definition.
That's exactly why patients with a higher volume of fat often say,
"It feels like something changed, but my jawline still isn't defined,"
while patients whose main concern is sagging say,
"My jawline is so much sharper now."
In fact, a 48-year-old patient who had the procedure done last spring came back in recently,
saying her chin area felt heavy again compared to a year ago.
When I assessed her, the lifting results had actually held up well,
but she had gained some weight,
and the overall fat volume had increased.
When fat volume changes,
the area will inevitably appear heavier again —
so this time, we planned to reduce the fat volume first,
then follow up with Shurink one month later to finish the contour.
Shurink Results for Double Chin:
It All Comes Down to Depth and Cartridge Selection
For the Double Chin area, we typically combine
4.5mm (fascial layer) and 3.0mm (deep Dermis) cartridges.
Profile | Recommended Approach | Primary Depth |
Sagging-dominant, low fat volume | Shurink as a standalone procedure | 4.5mm primary + 3.0mm support |
High fat volume, minimal sagging | Fat reduction first, then Shurink | 4.5mm focus |
Both fat and sagging present | Combined approach (MP mode recommended) | 4.5mm + 3.0mm combination |
Reduced Elasticity, 50s and above | Shurink + booster combination | 4.5mm + 1.5mm |
Looking at how results progress over time,
right after the procedure you may notice a mild tightening sensation along with a subtle improvement in definition.
Weeks 2 to 4 tend to feel like the least noticeable phase,
but the jawline typically becomes most defined
between weeks 6 and 8.
Patients who say "it didn't work"
have often made that call before reaching this peak window.
The 3 Questions
My Patients Ask Most
Q1. If I get Shurink for my Double Chin once, does it last forever?
No procedure lasts forever.
Results typically last around 9 to 12 months,
after which the natural aging process gradually
causes things to soften and descend again.
Q2. If I get 600 shots in one session,
do I get twice the results?
Shot count and results don't scale proportionally.
For the Double Chin area, 100 to 150 shots is generally the appropriate range —
what matters far more than a high shot count is
precise delivery at the right depth.
Q3. Could Shurink actually make
my face look more hollow?
It's possible.
Patients with minimal cheek volume who receive treatment broadly
down to the sub-cheekbone area may find the mid-face appears more sunken.
That's why carefully assessing fat thickness before the procedure
and precisely adjusting the depth is essential for safe results.
If there's one thing to take away from today —
Shurink tightens the fascia. It does not dissolve fat.
If you have a higher volume of submental fat,
reducing that volume first is what will actually reveal your jawline.

is the right approach' —
