Shurink HIFU Results Timeline: Week 1 to 12
The tightness right after Shurink is partly swelling, and the collagen change builds over weeks. Here's what week 1, weeks 2 to 4 and weeks 8 to 12 can tell you, how to take photos that compare fairly, and which reactions need a doctor right away.

Judge your Shurink HIFU results at around 12 weeks, not in the first few days. The tight feeling you notice in the mirror right after a session is partly swelling, while the change from new collagen builds slowly over the following weeks. So if nothing looks different at week 1 or 2, it's still too early to call it.
Shurink is a HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound) lifting treatment, and the question of when it starts to show comes up just as often with Shurink Universe. In this article, we'll cover what the first week can and can't tell you, why weeks 2 to 4 often look quiet, how to take photos you can actually compare at weeks 8 to 12, which reactions pass on their own, and what to check if week 12 still looks the same.
Quick summary
- Shurink results are best judged at around 12 weeks, using photos taken under the same conditions as your before photos.
- Timing: with one session, most people see modest lifting and tightening within 2 to 6 months.
- In skin samples taken 2 months after one focused ultrasound session, the collagen in the deeper skin layer had increased.
- Blisters, or one side of your face not moving properly, mean you should see a doctor right away instead of waiting for week 12.
Is the Tight Feeling Right After Shurink HIFU the Result?
It's safer not to count the tightness of the first day or week as your result. The ultrasound energy gathers as tiny heated points at several depths under the skin, and redness and mild swelling tend to come along with it. As that swelling goes down over the next few days, your face can feel like it's slipped back to where it started.
That's why a photo from week 1 makes a poor starting point. Compare against it and you'll probably feel the result has shrunk, when what really shrank was the swelling. For now, just watch whether the redness and puffiness are settling.
The photo that counts as your baseline is the one taken before treatment. If your session is still ahead of you, take that photo yourself on the morning of the appointment, in a spot and light you can repeat at home later. A phone camera is fine as long as the setup stays the same.

Did Shurink Fail If Nothing Changes by Week 4?
Nope. A lack of change at weeks 2 to 4 isn't a sign that the treatment failed. New collagen takes weeks to form in the spots that were heated. In a study of 22 people who had one session of focused ultrasound, skin samples taken 2 months later from 11 of them showed more collagen in the dermis, and the dermis itself had become thicker.
*Dermis: the layer under the skin's surface that keeps it firm and springy.
Another group of 32 people had one HIFU session on the cheeks and on body areas, with photos and skin elasticity measured at 4 and 12 weeks. The clear improvement in elasticity across the treated areas was reported at week 12. Pain averaged 3 out of 10 right after treatment and was gone by week 4. Keep in mind that neither study tested Shurink itself; both looked at devices that work the same way.
Before treatment, sagging gets sorted by layer. Is it mainly looseness in the skin itself, or have the fat and the fascia (the thin, tough sheet of tissue under the fat) slipped down underneath? Which layer is the main issue changes how much difference is realistic to expect at week 12, so it's worth asking which one the doctor sees in your face.

How Do You Compare Shurink Photos at Weeks 8 to 12?
Between weeks 8 and 12, retake your photos under the same conditions as the before photos and set them side by side. In a study of 20 people who had one session of Ultherapy, a different HIFU device, photos were taken from the front, at 45 degrees, and from the side, before treatment and at 3 months. By month 3, all seven facial areas measured had improved, and the doctors rated the biggest changes along the jawline, the cheeks, and around the mouth.
Your own before-and-after photos only compare fairly if these details match:
- Same time of day, same spot, same lighting
- Three angles: front, 45 degrees, and side
- A relaxed face with your mouth closed
- Hair tied back and glasses off
- The same distance between the camera and your face
Even a small shift in lighting or head angle moves the shadow along your jawline, and that alone can make the result look bigger or smaller than it is. With one session, the gradual lifting tends to appear over 2 to 6 months*. The change you're looking for is modest, which is exactly why a side-by-side view beats a quick glance in the mirror. How much you see depends on your skin.

Shurink Side Effects: What Passes and When to Get Seen Right Away
Redness, swelling, and bruising are reactions that pass. Among the 20 people in the Ultherapy study, 6 had redness or swelling and 2 had bruising, and all of it cleared within 2 weeks. If the area feels sore when you press on it, watch whether that eases over the next few days.
Don't wait for week 12 if you notice any of the following. See a doctor right away:
- Blisters, or skin that breaks down and weeps
- Swelling that doesn't go down, with the skin there sinking in or changing color
- One side of your face not moving properly, or a drooping corner of the mouth
Problems like these are rarely reported*. A message to the clinic doesn't replace an in-person exam, so get seen first and send photos afterward.
*Based on a case series of 5 people with blisters or ulcers after ultrasound lifting and a case report of facial nerve injury after HIFU.

What If Shurink Shows Little Change After 12 Weeks?
If the difference is still small in your week-12 photos, that's the point to decide the next step. First, check that the photos really matched the before shots in light, angle, and distance. A mismatch there can hide a change or invent one.
Next, look again at where the sagging sits. If it mainly comes from fat and fascia that have slid down, a single session may not show much on its own. In that case, the conversation turns to whether another session makes sense or whether the energy should be aimed at a different depth. You may get more benefit from additional sessions, but that's decided from what your photos show rather than booked by default.
Bring the date of your session and the number of shots you had. Those two details make it much easier to tell whether depth or the plan itself is the thing to change.

Shurink Within Your Travel Itinerary in Korea
Unless you had sedation that day, there's no need to push back your flight because of a Shurink session.
It also helps to know what one visit can and can't do. Some treatments, like fillers, change your shape on the same day. Most others, Shurink included, don't transform things in one go. They bring you gradually closer to how you used to look, and with HIFU that change keeps building in the weeks after you've flown home.
Because the week-12 check usually happens after you've left Korea, take your before photos here and repeat them at home with the same setup. Once you're home, you can send those photos through the consultation button on this page if you have questions about your progress. If a reaction looks serious, see a local doctor first rather than waiting on a reply.
The Bottom Line on Judging Your Shurink Results
Before you decide whether Shurink worked, line up two photos: one from before treatment and one from around week 12, taken in the same light and at the same angle. That pair shows the change at the depth where the heat went far better than any mirror check in the first week. Like any procedure, it comes with trade-offs, and what fits depends on your skin and where your sagging sits.
Beautystone is a clinic in Seoul's Hapjeong area. When you reach out, send both photos along with your treatment date, the number of shots you had, and the area that bothers you most. That's enough to talk through whether a next session or a different depth makes sense for you.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How long do Shurink results last?
A. No study we found measured how long Shurink results last on their own. In a study of 20 people who had one session of Ultherapy, a different HIFU device, the improvement seen at 3 months held through 6 months. Facial aging keeps going, so the timing of a next session is set at the visit from your week-12 photos.
Q. Is one Shurink session enough?
A. One Shurink session is expected to bring a modest lift rather than a big change. American Academy of Dermatology guidance notes that additional treatments may bring more benefit. Whether you need another is decided from where sagging remains in your week-12 photos.
Q. Do Shurink Universe results show up on the same timeline?
A. We didn't find a study that timed results for Shurink Universe specifically. In a study of 34 women who had one eye-area session with the Ultraformer MPT, a device from the same Korean manufacturer, results were checked at 12 weeks and 26 of them (76%) reported improvement. Redness and swelling settled within 3 to 4 days.
Q. Does Shurink hurt?
A. Shurink HIFU does cause some pain as the heat goes in. In an eye-area HIFU study, pain averaged 3.75 out of 10 after numbing cream had been applied for 40 minutes. The numbing method, such as numbing cream, is decided at the visit based on the area and how sensitive you are.
Q. My jaw feels numb after Shurink. Is that normal?
A. Numbness after HIFU treatments like Shurink is rarely reported. In a study of 75 people treated on the face and neck, 1 person had numbness on the right side of the jaw that went away on its own within 10 days. If numbness lasts longer or one side of your face doesn't move properly, see a doctor right away.
