Juvelook Volume: Which of 3 Areas Fits Best?

Lateral cheeks, smile lines or under the eyes? Here's how Juvelook Volume is placed in each area, when results were judged, what's different about the under-eye area and which warning signs need care right away.

Juvelook Volume tends to suit a broad hollow below the cheekbone, while the under-eye area needs a separate conversation. For the lateral cheek and the smile lines (nasolabial folds), there are records of 3 sessions with results judged 3 months after the last one. Under the eyes, where skin is thin, firm lumps have been reported, so the product type gets a second look first.

Juvelook Volume is a Korean injectable that combines PDLLA microspheres with hyaluronic acid, and it works gradually rather than all at once. In this article, we'll cover how the injection layer and schedule change by area, what the cheek and smile-line results looked like, what's different about the under-eye area, which warning signs need urgent care and how treatment fits a trip to Seoul.

Quick summary

  • Juvelook Volume is placed in a different layer, on a different schedule, depending on the area.
  • Lateral cheek: 23 of 24 people were rated improved 3 months after 3 sessions spaced 3 weeks apart.
  • Smile lines: 85% of 20 people were rated improved 3 months after 3 monthly sessions.
  • Under the eyes, firm lumps have been reported, so check which product type would be used.

Which Areas Does Juvelook Volume Suit Best?

The short answer? It depends on which layer has lost volume and how quickly you need to see a change. In Korea, Juvelook is authorized as a device that fills the space under the skin to temporarily soften wrinkles. The slower filling-in over the following months is explained by the manufacturer as collagen production.

At the first visit, I start by checking whether an area has hollowed or sagged. If sagging is casting the shadow, lifting is worth considering before filling. Juvelook also comes in several types under one Korean authorization, each with a different amount per vial, so the type for each area is part of the plan.

Juvelook Volume for Sunken Lateral Cheeks: How Is It Done?

For the sunken lateral cheek, a diluted product was spread through the superficial fat layer. Ligaments hold the edges of this area firmly, so putting in a large amount at once can leave the contour uneven. In a series of 24 patients, each vial was mixed with 8 mL of saline and 4 mL went into each side through a blunt cannula, 3 times at 3-week intervals.

Three months after the final session, 7 were rated very much improved, 11 much improved, 5 improved and 1 unchanged. Three people bruised, and the bruising cleared within 10 days. There was no comparison group, so this doesn't show Juvelook Volume outperforms other options. Individual results vary.

Juvelook Volume for Smile Lines: How Many Sessions, and When Do You Judge?

Smile lines were treated 3 times at 1-month intervals and judged 3 months after the last session. Twenty people with moderate to severe folds received 1 mL per side inside the skin, and 85% were rated improved or much improved at 3 months. The study didn't say which Juvelook type was used.

In a separate trial, 33 people had a PDLLA-based product on one fold and PLLA (the ingredient in Sculptra) on the other, 3 times at 4-week intervals. Both sides improved through week 24, by a similar amount, though long-term safety still needs more study. How much you see depends on your skin.

This isn't an injection that changes much after one visit. If you need a visible difference on a specific date, it's worth comparing it with a hyaluronic acid filler, which shows on the day. Spacing that's too short also means the next session goes in before the slower change can be judged.

Juvelook Volume Under the Eyes: Side Effects and Risks to Know

A 42-year-old woman developed firm lumps 3 weeks after Juvelook Volume was injected into her tear troughs, and using a larger-particle product there was named as the likely cause. A 67-year-old woman developed granulomas (inflamed lumps) about a month after 3 sessions of PDLLA around the eyes and needed two operations. Each is a single case, so they don't show how common this is. That's why the product type for the under-eye area deserves its own discussion.

Bruising and swelling are common after fillers and usually settle within a few days to weeks*. The signs below are different. Get medical care right away for skin color changes or unusual pain, and go to the nearest emergency room for vision changes or any sign of a stroke:

  • Skin near the injection site turning white, mottled, or dusky blue-red
  • Unusual pain during or shortly after the injection
  • Blurred or changed vision
  • Sudden difficulty speaking, numbness or weakness in the face, arms or legs, or trouble walking
  • Face drooping, severe headache, dizziness or confusion
  • A firm lump that hasn't shrunk after several weeks

*Based on US FDA guidance on dermal fillers in general, not on Juvelook Volume specifically.

Blindness after Juvelook Volume entered a blood vessel is rare, but it has been reported and is serious. In these cases, it's better to put treatment off: inflamed or infected skin where you'd be treated, a condition that makes bleeding hard to stop, a history of severe allergies or anaphylaxis, or pregnancy or breastfeeding, when safety hasn't been established.

Fitting Juvelook Volume Within Your Travel Schedule

Unless you've had sedation that day, there's no need to postpone your flight home after Juvelook Volume.

It also helps to know what one visit means. Some treatments, such as hyaluronic acid fillers, change your shape the same day. Most others work gradually, bringing your face closer to how it used to look rather than changing it all at once. Juvelook Volume belongs to the gradual group, and one visit doesn't replace the 3 sessions the studies above used.

Once you're home, you can contact us with photos if you have questions about how the area is settling. If something changes sharply, such as skin turning pale or blue, worsening pain or any change in vision, see a local doctor or emergency room first rather than waiting for a reply.

The Bottom Line: Ask Area by Area

Because the layer, dilution, number of sessions and spacing differ by area, get those four details for each area you're treating. Before you decide, ask which Juvelook type and how many milliliters would go into your cheek and your smile lines, and how many weeks apart. That one answer makes your options easier to compare. If the under-eye area bothers you too, ask separately which product would be used there.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is Juvelook Volume better for the front of the cheek or the side?

A. Juvelook Volume has results for the lateral cheek below the cheekbone, where 23 of 24 people were rated improved 3 months after 3 sessions. We haven't found results for the front of the cheek on its own. So for the front, the first step is checking whether sagging or hollowing is behind it.

Q. How many Juvelook Volume sessions before I can judge the result?

A. Juvelook Volume was judged 3 months after the third session in both the cheek and smile-line studies. Cheeks were treated 3 weeks apart and smile lines 1 month apart. If nothing seems different after 1 or 2 sessions, compare photos at that 3-month point before deciding.

Q. Juvelook vs. Sculptra: which is better for smile lines?

A. For smile lines, a PDLLA-based product and PLLA (the ingredient in Sculptra) improved by a similar amount through 24 weeks in a 33-person split-face trial. That makes the schedule, injection layer and number of sessions more useful to compare than the brand name itself.

Q. How long does bruising last after Juvelook Volume?

A. Bruising after Juvelook Volume in the cheek affected 3 of 24 people and cleared within 10 days. Bruising, swelling and redness after fillers in general usually settle within a few days to weeks. If you have an important event, leave room for bruising to fade.

Q. What if the Juvelook Volume area feels hard to the touch?

A. If a Juvelook Volume area still feels firm after several weeks, have it checked by the clinic that treated you. In one under-eye case, lumps that appeared at 3 weeks cleared within 24 hours of radiofrequency treatment. Granulomas have needed surgery, though, so don't press on it or simply wait.

Q. Can Juvelook Volume help cheeks that have started to sag?

A. For cheeks that have sagged, lifting is usually worth considering before Juvelook Volume. Hollow areas are filled and sagging areas are lifted, so the consultation starts by checking whether both are present. If they are, you'll decide together which to address first.

Q. Can I get Juvelook Volume and a filler on the same day?

A. Whether Juvelook Volume and a filler go in on the same day depends on the area and the goal. A filler shows on the day, while Juvelook Volume is judged over months, so putting both in one spot makes it hard to tell which caused the change. That's why splitting them by area is discussed at the consultation.
